Looking for the perfect wedding venue? The KwaZulu-Natal Midlands is home to a variety of stunning wedding venues. All of them are located in picturesque locations, offering elegance, beauty and an unforgettable experience.
Here are 5 of our favourite Midlands wedding venues:
1. Crystal Barn
Crystal Barn Country Estate is an award-winning, one-of-a-kind wedding venue, full of eclectic character, colour and charm. The estate is set on 49 hectares of Midlands farmland, with rolling green lawns and rows of Plain trees that overlook Rowe dam.
The wedding venue is beautiful. The restored barn is set on the edge of the dam, with palatial Indian doors, carved columns and windows and 22 vintage crystal chandeliers all of different colour and design creating a stunning setting. Picture how beautifully romantic this must look at night. A covered wooden deck with lacy old iron balustrade and carved columns, overlooks the dam, where the wedding party can watch the sunset, or just enjoy the view.
Couples can choose to get married in Crystal Barn’s little chapel, in the forest or on the lawns in front of the dam.
This venue is a favourite among wedding photographers due to its beauty, variety of picture-perfect locations and attention to detail.
2. Haycroft Farm
Haycroft Farm offers a stunning country setting and superb service – just take a look here at the raving reviews the venue has collected.
Here is one such review: “What an absolute GEM of a venue and the team that runs it makes it that much sweeter! Pippa answers all your questions and adds special touches to your experience! …. It was beyond anything we could have hoped and dreamed and it is because of the team at Haycroft that made it all possible! So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts! This venue is one in a million.” [shortened]
The farm is set in a forest on the edge of a beautiful dam, with a picturesque backdrop of rolling hills. It is another favourite venue among photographers and the wedding photos taken here are sublime.
3. The Glades Farm
The Glades in Balgowan is another magical Midlands wedding venue and wedding photographer’s dream.
The setting: Avenues of trees, glades, forests, mountain scenes, two dams and a herd of Nguni cattle provide a natural balance between charm and variety when it comes to planning wedding activities and the photographer’s schedule.
The chapel: An extension of the farm’s original stables, this open, humble space allows the mountain scape to create a breathtaking backdrop to the wedding ceremony. The design of the chapel allows for the side window blinds to be either completely open or closed off from the elements so you can let nature in as much or as little as you would like.
150 guests can be comfortably seated on wooden benches and additional chairs may be placed alongside the benches for extra seating.
The reception: Bringing nature in is a proud theme at The Glades and carries through to the reception with the indigenous forest taking centre stage. The windows on both sides of the converted barn offer a view over one of the Midlands valleys; lush and green in summer and snow capped peaks in winter.
A grand fireplace finishes off the farm chic style of the venue while leaving room for your chosen decor to transform this space into a desired theme. The barn can seat 180 guests at the banquet style wooden chairs and tables.
Hilton Bush Lodge
The Hilton Bush Lodge is ideal for those couples who want more of a African-inspired wedding.
Overlooking the confluence of the uMngeni and Rietspruit rivers, as well as neighbouring uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve, your wedding party will be mesmerised by long grasses swaying in the gentle breeze, sightings of an antelope or two, picturesque vistas across the valley and continual bird song. This is a restful yet invigorating place to be – it’s Africa at its best.
Although sophisticated, the venue has been specifically designed to remain in harmony with the untouched, 40-something hectares of bushveld and it successfully unites a picturesque country setting with state-of-the-art facilities.
The accommodation is also stunning – with beautiful views over the valley and Savannah.
Orchards is another top Midlands wedding venue. The venue is elegant and romantic, situated in the rolling hills of the Caversham Valley in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
The wedding chapel, nestled in the Orchard, affords stunning views of the lush, green fields, scattered with hay bales, setting the scene for a truly romantic country wedding with a difference. The thatched, country-chic ambience permeates throughout the Guest Lodge, converted stables and wedding venue, all of which spills down to the bubbling stream gently meandering through the property.
A photographer’s dream, the creative juices will flow at Orchards. Gnarled old fruit trees, a babbling brook, textured walls, stone stairs, beautiful gardens and rolling hills are just some of the features that enhance Orchard’s photogenic beauty. The natural lighting and contrasting colours of the area will blanket those special wedding memories with an enchanting aura.
