We recently heard about an amazing initiative to honour Madiba’s legacy and wanted to share with you in case you haven’t heard about it yet.
The #27KmScarf campaign
On Sunday, 29 July, 67 Blankets South Africa aims to smash the Guinness World Record for the longest crocheted scarf in the world at the Mandela Capture Site near Howick.
To honour Nelson Mandela’s centenary year, the NPO, 67 Blankets South Africa, intends to make a scarf measuring 27km. Madiba spent 27 years in prison.
67 Blankets needs your help to achieve this amazing feat. If you would like to be involved in this great cause, then please make a scarf or square for a scarf by Monday 25th June and drop of at one of the many drop off points across South Africa – sell below for drop-off details.
Scarves or squares can be knitted or crocheted.
Says 67 Blankets South Africa: “Every scarf will have our message of love and warmth attached to it, as well as our trademark heart logo – and people walking home from school and work will witness pockets of glorious colour and warmth around lamp posts, railings and trees. And thousands of people who need a little more colour and warmth in their lives will be able to just help themselves to our labours of love. The measurement for the Longest Scarf currently stands at 14 km. We say – let’s do 27 kilometers!”
