If you find yourself in the Midlands Meander on a Saturday morning, one of the most delightful things to do is visit the Karkloof Farmers Market, open from 7am – 11am. It’s a cheerful and colourful market full of friendly folk selling locally-grown produce. It’s also a great place to grab a quick, healthy and delicious bite to eat and a tasty cup of coffee.

One of the market’s newest traders is Rocket Cafe, selling a vibrant mix of vegan street style food. Something we can’t wait to try for ourselves is the intriguing sounding Eclipse burger – made up of Rocket Cafe’s signature charcoal buns (homemade, of course) with a black bean patty on top of truffle mayo slaw. How good does that sound?

To find out more about Rocket Cafe and their charcoal buns follow their adventures on Facebook here and Instagram here.

Some more delightful traders:
Solfood – Vegan and organic breakfast bowls filled with fresh fruit, chia seeds and coconut milk. Yum! Like on Facebook here.

The Table Deli – Another new stall at the market selling homemade dips and spreads, including mayo, coriander pesto, pickled jalapenos and houmous.

Marrakesh Cheese – One of the market’s original traders, started trading when the Karkloof Market launched in 2007.

Wild Bread Co – Freshly-baked artisan sourdough bread and more.

At the market you’ll also find:

  • Delicious crisp vegetables and herbs;
  • Sweet and tasty fresh fruit;
  • Traditional French Artisan breads;
  • Organic cheese and yoghurt;
  • Camembert made in the French tradition;
  • Tempting chocolate brownies;
